3 Stars Quality is not great
I’ve owned 3 pairs of these earbuds in the last year. The first pair’s demise was due to gnawing pets, so those are off the hook. In Oct 2008, I bought a pink pair of these “Smokin’ Buds” after my trusty Sony’s bit the dust. I liked the analog volume control on them, and the silicone fittings stay nicely on the earbud. But, after about 1 month of use, the headphone jack quit playing nice with my iPod Touch. Other earbuds worked in the iPod, and the Skullcandy worked with other devices, but they didn’t work together. (For the record, these had an L-shaped headphone jack, where the jack was perpendicular to the direction of the earbud cable)
At this point, I borrowed another pair of Skullcandy earbuds. These were very similar to my pink ones, except the earbud jack was straight, inline with the wire direction. Today the cable got caught on a chair and I accidentally ripped the headphone jack out from the audio wire. I’ve have snags like this before with lots of different earbuds, and never had this happen.
Yes, they’re cheap($), but you get what you pay for. I guess if you are a more gentle user than I, these might work for you.
I would recommend some Sony’s instead. I had two different pairs that lasted for over 1.5 years each. Much better quality.
1 Star good sound- poor design, lasted 2 months
liked the sound- good for coffee shop studying as it blocked out other noise well.
however the volume control on the chord was too bulky and acted as a weight while jogging. constantly having to put earbuds back in ears.
after 2 months, the left side stopped working and only works when i hold the chord at the base at a certain angle.
pay ten bucks more and get a better product.
4 Stars Great Headphones, but not for everyone!
I bought these headphones for the first time about a year ago when they first came out. I decided I’d give them a shot and threw them on! I fell in love INSTANTLY! The bass was very powerful and the sound was crisp and clear. They’re really good headphones for the price, and the noise canceling effect is a really nice plus. However, I have noticed that when I let people use them (or read reviews), some people have a lot of trouble keeping them in their ears. Or they complain that they hurt their ears or feel uncomfortable. I’ve never had a problem with this, but with the number of people I’ve seen complaining about it, it definatley must be a problem. I don’t mean to say don’t give them a chance! If you have the extra cash, just try them out, who knows? You may end up loving them! But be cautious, they might not fit in your ears. But hey, they fit in mine! And when the ones I have break, I’ll buy another pair of Skullcandy headphones :]
3 Stars Great…and then the letdown comes…
I got a white pair of these for my birthday in April, and they were fabulous. The sound is crisp, and you have great volume control. The bass is also great for people that really like heavy-bass music.
And then, in August, all the sudden, the right ear broke, and just stopped working for no apparent reason. I can live with that, so I just let it go. But then 3 days later, the left ear broke just like the right one! No matter how many ways I positioned it, or cleaned it, they just wouldn’t work.
They lasted 5 months….not so good….
5 Stars Amazing Sound Quality
These earphones are what I’ve been wanting for a long time. Something affordable but not cheap. These earphones are the best you can get without spending an arm and a leg. The sound quality is top notch, like you’re listening to a 2 grand sound system in a car. The sound is crisp and the bass thumps nicely. Also, I can use them to jog if I run the bud over the back of my ear and bring it down upside down into my ear. This has the wire rest on the back of my ear so when I jog the earphones don’t jar out. The case that comes with it is nice and protects all of the product.
Overall: Amazing both in sound and stability.
I recommend these to everyone!

4 Stars Extremely comfortable
These are super comfortable and easy to pack for travel. The soft rubber ear clips are excellent for extended wear. These are NOT extremely high fidelity, but they allow you to enjoy your music and still hear the world around you…sometimes a necessity. For noise canceling, you’ll want to find something else, but for general use when you need to hear the kids, or traffic, or your boss, these are unbeatable for comfort.
The small bud fits right into the opening of the ear, but the ear pieces keep it there. Unlike ordinary ear-buds, these don’t fall out. The ear clip is very soft, flexible rubber that you can wear for hours without discomfort. I have lots of these so that I have a pair wherever and whenever I want.

3 Stars Not the best
These were a gift for our daughter. She says that none of the adapter sizes fit well in her ears. Also the sound is more tinny than with other buds she’s used.
5 Stars Good sound, great bass.
I listen to a lot of hip-hop music, and these headphones definitely supply good bass and sound.
3 Stars mmk…
These headphones are “ok”
I got them to replace the generic iPod headphones that would always fall out of my ears. I used to have the Skullcandy Ink’d earbuds and I liked those a lot better than these, the Smokin’ buds.
The wire feels extremely cheap on these and the volume adjuster is unnecessarily large. I wish I got the Ink’d ones again, they were cheaper too!
4 Stars Good sound quality with fair noise-blocking
I bought these to replace a pair of Sony Ex-71s whose cord had started to fray and fail. After going through several pairs of earbuds (Philips, the new Sonys, and jbuds), I settled on these. Their sound blocking is sufficient for riding on mass transit, where it is far more important to block out the noise. When walking on the street or in other areas where I might need to hear something, I just wear them a little looser and I feel confident I could hear well enough to respond. They are not so great at the gym, however, as they fall out without much pulling.
The in-line volume control is very handy and the sound quality is pretty good. I would recommend these.
3 Stars Great sound, but not worth twenty bucks
These Skullcandy Smokin’ Buds have great sound. But YES, even at twenty dollars you are paying too much. Honestly, it’s not the brand that makes any difference, it’s this TYPE of earbud that makes the difference (this type that plugs snugly into your ear canal delivers so much better sound as opposed to the little “speakers” that just sit there in front of your ear canal). My daughter has a pair of KOSS earbuds that we got from Walmart and they sound just as good as these Skullcandy ones. They both have the inline volume control. She paid about $14 bucks and I paid $29 for these. So these earbuds are pretty good, but don’t pay too much!
