5 Stars Great item
My 17 year old daughter was attracted to these because of the color and the skull. They look exactly as they appear in the picture, she loves using them. She’s a very small person and has little ears; she says they’re comfortable and fit her ear better than any others she’s had. The sound is clear and she’s happy with them. I’ll probably buy more.

1 Star Didn’t live up to my expectations.
On the case and on Amazon.com, I kept reading about how comfortable these headphones were, so I decided to try them.

They weren’t comfortable…at all. They don’t stay on your head well at all, and squeeze your ears into a shape they can’t comfortably stay in.

The sound quality isn’t great either. Everybody around you can hear them, and if that is what I wanted, I would have bought a boombox instead.

Very disappointed.

5 Stars Practical for my work
At my job I have to sometimes do some hands on stuff. I had the big bulky skull candy headphones but they kept falling off. These worked great. They stayed on my ears, were comfortable and had great sound. If you’re like me and you find ear buds immensely uncomfortable but want a small pair of headphones, look no further.

5 Stars Better than I thought
I got these headphones to replace a similar model, but not the brand. These work so much better than my last ones. The audio quality is surprising for this type of clip on. It has slight noise cancellation and it’s much more comfortable than I thought. This is something that I would definitely buy again.

1 Star Eh, not so good…
Being a former hipster and now raising a 4 year old hipster/super hero in training I saw these headphones and thought they looked “cool”and wanted to love them! I also thought they would be more comfortable than earbuds especially after reading the 2 reviews here. When they arrived I was so shocked at how large they were, I don’t know what I was expecting but these are HUGE. Yes, they are very retro/skater/punkster looking but that’s about it. They do not fit well, especially for anyone with smaller ears, they do not fit tightly on your ear so you are not getting any kind of descent sound out of these. Also please note that anyone within a few feet of you can hear your tunes because you have to turn your iPod up to full volume to even hear anything with these because they stand out from your ears so much. To top it off, within a few days the sound started cutting in and out on one of them. I would not suggest anyone buy these, they’re not even halfway descent. If you are not comfortable with earbuds or have small ears, I can’t recommend JVC HAFX34A Marshmallow headphones highly enough – they are fantastic (see my review). I do hope this review is helpful because I really would hate to see someone waste their money on these, they are just terrible.

Sony MDRNC22 PIN Noise Canceling Earbuds

The Noise-Canceling headphones Sony MDR-NC22 offer an extra level in audio enjoyment by vastly reducing ambient noise that can leak into your listening experience. They are especially ideal but not limited to travelers and commuters on public transport.

4 Stars Good product for the money, but on an airplane it’s more like noise reduction rather than cancellation
Overall, I’m happy with these earbuds – I purchased them for use in an airplane, and they certainly made a difference on my 11-hour, non-stop flight from LA to London and back.

It’s important to understand that “cancellation” is the operative word here. On airplanes, these help reduce the background jet-engine noise, but don’t come close to eliminating it, which I don’t think anything will, especially if you’ve got a window seat like I did right by the wing/engine. Perhaps if you were seated away from them these earbuds would work even better(?).

With the noise-cancel feature turned on music sounds incredibly better (when compared to standard earbuds), and without the need to crank up the volume. You can really hear the complete range of tones in your music.

They also helped me get some rest – not sleep – but rest. They’re not too comfortable for use with a pillow. I tried to get some sleep by propping one up against the window, but the earbuds either dig into your ear canal (and give you a sensation that they’re going to get stuck) or they carve into your earlobe. Next time, I’ll just use earplugs when I want to sleep – they work far better and are more comfortable.

Will agree with one reviewer who wrote about choosing the correct fit because it’s critical to their effectiveness – they need to be perfectly snug in your ear.

Battery lasts a long time … it’s only needed for the noise-cancellation feature since they’ll work as standard earbuds without any battery power. Kit comes with one, but I used a Duracell instead and made all 22 hours on that one battery.

One neat feature is the temporary off button which is good, for example, when the stewardess comes around to offer you what she thinks passes for “food” at a ridiculous price. You can press it to deactivate the n/c without having to either turn off the power or remove the earbuds.

Good product for the money – I can’t see myself flying again without them.

5 Stars works like a charm…for a few months
I bought the noise canceling earbuds so that I could watch a movie while I run on the treadmill…between my feet pounding and the treadmill whirling I used to have to turn up the volume on my old earbuds all of the way up…killing my ears. Now I can hear pretty well without turning up the volume! There is that humming noise that everyone talks about but I only notice/hear it when there is no other noise present. Overall good for my purposes and fit in my ears very well without hurting them like some earbuds do.

UPDATE: Bought this several months ago…loved it except it no longer works. It stopped working after only about 2 months. It started by a lose cord which I had to keep pushing back in, finally it just got so annoying and worked less and less, that I’m now looking into an over the head model by another company. Loved the idea of in ear buds, but just didn’t have the staying power.

4 Stars don’t expect miracles
I think the sound quality overall is pretty good-better than my other sony earbuds. However, I think the cord is too long and I agree with the other reviewer about the placement of the battery compartment. It makes the apparatus a bit unwieldy. Also, getting the buds to stay in my ears has been problematic. I have tried all three sizes of the foam covers and finally determined the best way to keep them in is to actually ignore sony’s designation of left and right. Strange.

5 Stars Best yet
This is the forth pair of noise-canceling earphones I’ve bought and it is by far the best. Because they fit in your ear they shut out more noise than earphones that fit on or over your ear, and they do an amazing job of canceling other noise. Noise canceling doesn’t do anything to silence the screaming child in the seat behind you. For that you need noise supression. The best thing for that is the expandable foam earplugs you can buy for a few bucks in most drug stores. Noise-canceling works against steady background sounds like the roar of a jet engine, and is most useful if you only want to block certain things — like jet noise — but want to hear others, like the soundtrack to the in-flight movie or the music from your iPod. These headphones are great for the latter purpose. The sound quality is very good, and their ability to cancel loud background sounds is absolutely amazing. Far better than any other headphones I’ve tried. Plus they are small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. I’ll never travel without them again.

4 Stars Very effective
I purchased these to use while weed eating or lawn mowing and they work nicely for that. External noise is damped well enough for me to hear clearly without blasting out my eardrums. My only difficulty is keeping the plugs in my ears. They tend to fall out at inconvenient times, but this is still a huge improvement over the headphones I was using previously.

5 Stars great product and great value
I am very satisfied with these earbuds. They are a great improvement over my iPod earbuds and my Sony earbuds. They fit tightly like earplugs (with 3 sizes of inserts), have great bass response, and were an excellent value. I am very pleased with this purchase!

5 Stars I just baught another pair
These are the best! I wish I had found these before I dropped the money for noise cancellation earphones. These earbuds are quiet and very comfortable. I have to turn down the volume because I can hear my music so much better. My I-Pod earbuds were very stylish and I used them for years thinking it was just my ears that made them hurt when I listened to my I-Pod. Now I know, the Skull candy buds are all the difference in the world. I recommend them to anyone who appreciates comfort, value and quality.

2 Stars not the best
These headphones not only have horrible sound quality, but the cord makes noise that you can hear in the buds. I have the skullcandy over the ear headphones and they are ok, but these I would not recommend to anyone.

2 Stars You get what you pay for!
after my original ipod apple earphones broke, i looked through tons of reviews to find a new pair. I bought these due to the good reviews, but im not impressed at all. I had them maybe 3 months with very light use and they already broke i had to tape the earphone back together! the sound was tinny i thought, and you really have to jam them in your ear to get a decent sound. I just bought an apple pair again yesterday and i happy as a clam to have them back.

1 Star All flash, no substance
For all their emphasis on style, Skullcandy completely missed the mark when it comes to quality. I’m sure you’ve heard the old chestnut about the distortion created when the wire is jostled, so I won’t belabor the point. I doubt you’ll notice it anyway thanks to the unacceptable sound quality. “Tinny” doesn’t even begin to describe this product. There is no bass whatsoever. None. You get the middle behind a veil of static, and that’s about it. This is the kind of quality I’d expect from Dollar General specials. Do yourself a favor and research earphones carefully without buying into Skullcandy’s hype.

As for the scores of five-star reviews, I can only speculate that Skullcandy is hiring people to write them, because it hardly takes an audiophile to realize just how bad this item is.
